BPP Cables completes subsea cable handling study

The European Subsea Cables Association’s Renewables Power Sub-Group is drafting a set of cable installation guidelines for the subsea cables industry. This has ignited debate on whether it is acceptable to use some types of equipment while handling heavy subsea cables under tension. There has been an unacceptably high rate of failure of submarine power cables and in some cases it is possible these failures have been caused by inappropriate cable handling methods. BPP Cables has completed a key study to inform the mechanical handling guidelines. These will be published soon so watch this space! For support on cable installation challenges, please email us.
